We’re back to the roaring 20’s and I am so honestly thrilled that 2019 is officially in the past.

It was a really tough year for me where I was kicked a lot during the times when I was down, but there were good times too. I went to my first blogger events, I took my mom to see Michelle Obama on her birthday, I got an apartment all to myself! But the tough times weigh heavily still so I’m very excited to be moving past them.

Now that it’s 2020, the start of a new decade means it’s time to set some goals regardless of whether or not I actually complete them. For my GoodReads Reading Challenge, I want to read 65 books at least and unhaul any and all books I don’t finish. I have a bad habit of putting books down and saying “Now just isn’t the right time for this book” and not picking them back up. Well no more! Life is too short and my shelves are too jammed for books that don’t interest me. The same goes for ARCs. I have so many ARCs that I was dying to get my hands on, and yet they all still sit on my shelf. I don’t plan on doing much “influencer” blogging this year, at least not until I can get through the ARCs that I already have.

I want to have a more regular posting schedule on my blog, and I’ve got a relaxed schedule all planned out in my bullet journal to stay on top of it all. So stay tuned for weekly reviews every Wednesday with a manga feature on Mondays!

In personal goals, I want to quit smoking and use the money I’ll save to get a cat. I want to finish writing my book. I want to really live my life as myself, for myself, and stop being so concerned with how other people see me. I try way too hard to try and make other people happy or to get them to like me without taking care of myself. It’s time I think about how I want to live MY life and let’s hope a brand new decade will help me do that.

So here’s to 2020 and all the lovely books I’ll have to share with you all! Below is the list of books I’m hoping to read this January!

January Start Up

With 2018 finally and fully out the door, it’s time to think about resolutions. I don’t like resolutions because those kind of changes-with-a-deadline never end up sticking and only prove to stress me out more than they should. So instead of “new year, new me”, my plan is to really set realistic goals.

  • I want to stop being so hard on myself all the time
  • I want to make more time for writing (and will be participating in Leigh Bardugo’s #BAYMTGO challenge this year)
  • I want to practice writing my first novel’s query letter every month until the manuscript is finished
  • I want to read 100 books
  • I want to do my best to stick to a set TBR each month
  • I want to conquer some series I keep putting off (Game of Thrones, Throne of Glass, and Outlander)

And with these resolutions, comes my TBR list for January! I don’t have a set order that I’ll be reading these in but these are the eight novels I’m hoping to read this month. If you want to do a buddy read for any of these, then just let me know!!

  • Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
  • Slayer by Kiersten White (ARC)
  • The Matchmaker’s List by Sonya Lalli (ARC)
  • Rough Animals by Rae DelBianco
  • City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
  • The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon
  • Strange Days by Constantine Singer
  • The Goblins of Bellwater by Molly Ringle (ARC)
  • (and if I have time to take part in the Buzzfeed Bookclub this month) My Sister, The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite

Here’s to 2019 hopefully not being the dumpster fire that was my 2018. Here’s to making things better for myself and not putting so much energy into toxic people or relationships that aren’t going anywhere.

New Year, New Challenges

2018 is here at last after the doozy of a year that 2017 was. I, for one, will not miss 2017 one bit. Now of course with the new year upon us, it brings new challenges, new goals, and – most importantly – new books!

My reading slump hit me pretty hard last year and I just barely reached my goal of 52 books – thanks Tintin. This year, I’ve set the same goal for myself which I am actually aiming to surpass with the help of audiobooks as well as physical books. Can I do it? I don’t know, but I am hoping to try. Another reading challenge of mine is no re-reads of books I’ve read within the last three years. I find that when I get stuck, I try to re-read things and then end up just stopping in the middle and letting the slump continue anyway. So only new-to-me books until 2019! Sorry, Harry Potter.

I also have other goals this year, such as completing my first draft of my first full-length  novel by the end of the year, and actually finish NaNoWriMo (but thankfully that one can wait). I love writing so much, it is honestly all I’ve ever wanted to do with my life, and I want to make more time for it. Maybe I’ll even publish some shorts throughout the year. We shall see. I know I have plenty of ideas of what to work on.

Coming up this month, I have some overdue reviews for you lot as well as some book-ish articles, page-to-screen analyses, and some other general life blogging.

But now I want to know about you! Tell me in the comments about your 2018 goals! Or your favourite reads of 2017! Whatever it is, I need more book talk in my life.

Happy New Year, everyone! Enjoy it!
